Hard Chrome Platingcapacity 36" diameter x 160" face length Keystone Rolls, Inc. employs the most technologically advanced hard chrome plating system available in the industry today. This system has been designed specifically for our needs and your requirements. Plating bath solutions are constantly analyzed in our laboratory to ensure exact plating chemistry. The actual plating cycle is controlled and monitored by a centrally located electronic operator station, where all critical plating variables such as temperature, amperage and voltage are maintained. This consistent control of solution chemistry and operating procedures yields a high-quality plating deposit that is required for our final finishing operation. In addition to providing the highest quality plating deposits, our self-containing plating system is designed to ensure a clean, safe environment by utilizing only the most advanced scrubbers and ventilation systems, all in full compliance with EPA standards.
Machining and Fabrication
Sub-arc Welding for Size Restoration or Hard Facing - 36" diameter x 240" overall length We machine the outer roll shell undersize for 420 stainless steel hard surfacing of new rolls. The roll shell is then set up in a submerged arc automatic welder and welded with two passes of 420 stainless steel with a residual thickness of 1/8" per side. Our 420 S.S. shell provides a uniform hardness of 50-52 Rockwell C across the entire roll surface. We can also take your existing soft shell roll and convert the outer shell to 420 S.S. "hard-shell" or remove the existing outer shell, reconstruct internals, and replace it with a new hard surfaced 420 S.S. "hard-shell." A variety of other metals as well as 420 stainless steel can be used to restore diametric size easily and affordably.
Grinding Whether you demand straight or true parabolic crowning, our grinders can predictably do the job. In new hard chromed chill roll applications, the finished machine roll assembly is ground in final preparation for hard chrome plating. After plating, the roll assembly is given another grind for the final T.I.R. (Total Indicator Runout). At this stage, roll roundness and straightness is established, as well as diametrical size. Final bearing dimensions and lengths are also established at the final grind operation. Have a roll that is need of repair? Our grinding services are available around the clock to ensure fast accurate results.
Finishing and Surface Measurement:
Our advancement in roll finishing is second to no one. We utilize a proprietary finishing technique that allows us to furnish our customers with a variety of finishes up to a flawless optical bright mirror. In addition, we utilize the most advanced surface measuring and recording instruments available today. Our surface analyzing equipment will interpret Ra, Rz, R max, RPM and peak count as well as provide a complete profile readout.
